in washington. we have a health care problem. it cost too much. then we heard over the weekend nancy pelosi said on the chris wallace show, washington doesn't have a spending problem. do you agree that? >> no, i don't. i think washington has a tremendous spending problem. and the only way we're going to get the deficit in control is to cut spending and have comprehensive entitlement reform. it's unconclusionable to leave this kind of debt to our children and grandchildren and they would not have the same opportunities that we've had if we leave them with this extreme debt here. so we have to accept responsibility to do something about it. i think again that, what dr. carson was saying. >> steve: yeah. i know you're a democrat and you feel that way, but what about the members of your party in congress? it just seems like don, we love you, but we don't agree with that. >> i think there are many democrats democrats who do. if you look at president clinton's pen you're, his fiscal policy was much more to the center. >> steve: we thank you for joining us on this busy news morning. >> thank you. >> st

for immigration, one thing that nancy pelosi likes to tell and one thing i've seen personally on dlil, you'll get some of these republican businessmen from central part of california, arizona, texas, florida, and they all come here and say, hey, we need to fix this. at least for guest workers. if you take away these immigrants, as you have seen in alabama that had a very strict immigrant law, the crop product gets killed and profits go down. >> that could also be used as an umbrella to get some of the raucus members of house in line, and so far it's not a humanistic article or about the other. it's about cold, hard cash. look, keep your boat shoes firmly planted many the ground, because we're going to try and get you to talk to us about gun reform after the break. >> indeed. >> and after we come back, doubts grow about the possibility of getting an assault weapons ban passed in congress, but you would not know that from listening to president obama. we will examine the 1994 law and the case for a new legislative fight next on "now." ♪ if it wasn't for you ♪ don't know what i'd do ♪ i'd have

with the economy? you've had nancy pelosi over the weekend saying the fact that we have a spending and debt problem is a false argument. you've got him disbanding the jobs council. so i'm not optimistic, but it does appear that he's going to pivot to the economy now. at this point he's starting to look like a ballet dancer, and i hope he makes the right decision. jon: andrew, do you agree the economy is the number one issue? >> no doubt about that. i do disagree with the issues that he talked about, i definitely believe that the economy is number one for the public, and that's where the president is going to focus tomorrow night. jon: well, if the economy is the number one thing, chris, he did get reelected, essentially, you know, on, well, i mean, mitt romney hammered him on the economy, and president obama still got reelected. >> well, he did. i don't know that he did a great job point out the challenges to the economy. we saw the economy start to rebound. but half of americans still believe we are in recession. so this could kind of be the nixon goes to china time for obama. if he were to reach
